Directorate of Integrated Child Development Services, while undertaking a long journey in the state, has succeeded in establishing Anganwadi Center as the first village center for the women and children of every village. Following the principles of National Child Policy-1974, it was started from Garhi Panchayat Samiti of Banswara on October 2, 1975. Presently ICDS is benefiting a large number of beneficiaries through 62,020 Anganwadi centers operating under 304 projects in the state.

The Directorate of Integrated Child Development Services is mainly running schemes for children aged 0 to 6 years, pregnant/lactating women and adolescent girls. Along with this, the work related to related policies, legislations, financial resources, training needs, monitoring, evaluation and supervision is done by the Directorate to ensure the fulfillment of the following objectives:-

  1. To ensure improvement in the nutritional and health status of children in the age group of 0 to 6 years.
  2. To lay the foundation for proper psychological, physical and social development of children.
  3. To reduce mortality, morbidity, malnutrition and school dropouts.
  4. To ensure effective coordination through policy and implementation among various departments with the aim of promoting child development.
  5. To enhance the mother's capacity to take care of general health and nutritional needs through nutrition and health education.

Along with discharging the responsibility of ensuring operation of integrated programs for women and children, Directorate of Integrated Child Development Services is also running Nutrition Campaign, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandan Yojana and Indira Gandhi Matru Poshan Yojana.

Along with the appointment of the Director as the top head under the Directorate of Integrated Child Development Services, in his succession Additional Directors, Joint Directors, Deputy Directors and Assistant Directors are working at the state level. The operation of the programs is being ensured by the Deputy Director at the district level through the Child Development Project Officers posted at the block level. The work is being carried out by Anganwadi workers at the village level under the guidance of women supervisors posted at the sector level. The female supervisor, working as the supervisory in-charge of the groups (sectors) of Anganwadi centres, reports to the concerned Child Development Project Officer.
